What’s up, good human? I want to start this journey with you with an experiment from my history. The reason is that it shows that I’m not new to doing this work on myself, and I want to take you back a couple of years.
Before my wedding, my wife and I were supposed to practise or learn a dance. I kept delaying it, putting it off and prioritising other things. On the surface, that looked like procrastination. To my wife, that looked like I didn’t care, and I was causing some friction.
When I stopped and looked at it, underneath it there was a fear of dancing in front of those people who loved us and who we loved. I was sabotaging something that I genuinely wanted to enjoy. I really wanted to enjoy this.
So I used the PSYCH-K® process to identify what was going on for me and to change and internalise some beliefs that would change my reality there.
The effect those belief changes had on me was almost immediate. I was immediately able to enjoy the practice. At the wedding, which you’ll see in the footage here, I didn’t simply enjoy the dance. I had a ball, and you can see it on my face.
Changing your belief doesn’t instantly make you an absolute freaking legend at what it is that you want to do. That takes work. I wish that I had done this work on myself a good six months earlier, so there was that six months to learn some moves. When you watch the video, don’t critique my dance moves. Just look at how I’m enjoying it.
The external situation didn’t change. What changed was how I was responding to it. This is what fascinates me about this work.
When we think of something as a procrastination problem, a discipline problem or a personality trait, it may actually be a subconscious pattern that we’re running. What becomes possible when that pattern changes? What becomes possible when our response to that trigger changes?
This is an earlier experiment, and I’ve just thought of a way to expand it, which you can read about. I’ll document that too. It belongs here because it shows where the journey began, or an earlier part of the journey. I’m not new to this.
You’ll see a link to the original video where I talk about it and some photos of the wedding. From here, I’m going to continue to document the Psych Hack Experiments as they happen, including what I test. There are a few retrospective ones that I’ve been working on over the last few months that I’ll put in as well.
I encourage you to follow along, see what changes for me and think about what’s possible for you. Until next time, be unapologetically awesome. Bye for now.
